Suspect Nabbed In Knifepoint Robbery At Long Island Subway Restaurant

A knife-wielding man was arrested by police on Long Island after allegedly robbing a Subway restaurant for an undisclosed amount of cash.

Officers from the Suffolk County Police Department responded to Subway on Portion Road in Ronkonkoma at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 4, where there was a report of an armed robbery.

Police said that Selden resident Richard Sutton walked into the restaurant and approached an employee at the counter while displaying a knife and demanding cash on Monday night.

During the armed robbery, a second employee approached the register, complied with Sutton’s demand, while officers from the Suffolk County Police Department responded to the restaurant, apprehended Sutton without incident and arrested him.

Sutton, age 61, was charged with first-degree robbery and held overnight. Sutton is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday, Jan. 5.
